Finding Inspiration
“Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working.”
Everyday life.
Life changes but it seems like is always going to be this way. You will be nostalgic for the car you used to drive or the person who is no longer in you life. Styles of clothes change. I often fall for the fact that I might will remember what my life looks like now but when I try to remember what my parents house looked like in middle school compared to what it looked like they moved out and I can’t. I try to document every day life when I can. I most recently photographed me tying my shoes. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out but I ended up loving the photos that came out of it.
One Object
I have done this with bridges and I’m just starting this with stained glass windows. Just looking at one thing doesn’t seem that hard but once you get all the obvious shots it is when the creativity really starts. I find helps challenge me to look at different angles and lenses I can use to get the effect I’m going for. It helps push me to experiment and everything works but sometimes when I go photograph something else I will use the experimented on a bridge or a stained glass window
Use one Lens
When I go out to photograph landscapes I will use my 85mm which photographs a bit tight to challenge myself and see what I can get. Using a different lens from what you would normally do will cause you to think and how knows what will happen.
Mundane Tasks
I make bulletproof coffee in the morning so the other day I decided to photography the process of making it. Of course it took twice as long to do it because I was documenting it but it ended up being fun and I got cool shots of the coffee being poured over butter. (I did a blog post about it. Click here to see it.) Pick a mundane task like making your bed or your bed time routine. I find it makes me think about how I do the tasks in a different way.
From other Art forms
I love listening to music and sometimes find myself visualizing how I would photograph a line from a song and I often do this with books as well. When I listen or read and my imagination starts going then that’s when I find.
Other Photographers
I personal going to start trying to limit the amount of time looking at other photographers work mostly because I don’t want to get just copy them or not even try because I think that I ever can’t be that good. I like to look at what others are doing to get ideas and do things that I haven’t tried before. Just don’t let others talent get to your head.
Photo Assignments
Give yourself an assignment like you are doing it for a job. I did this recently with glass Coke-a-cola bottles just because I have extra time on my hands and I wanted to photograph something and I was ordering from Chipotle and I noticed they had the glass Coke-a-cola bottles. I of course ordered them with my food and did a photoshoot with them. If you wish you could do a type of photography and want to get to paid for it this is a way to get some experience doing it. I follow a couple of photographers during this time that are doing photo assignments that are doing photo assignments with their followers. I plan on doing a couple do challenge myself and I would love to be featured if possible but it’s okay if I don’t.
