Whats in My Camera bag?
I’ve been meaning to sit down and write about what is in my camera bag but another blog posts I wanted to write before sitting down and writing this one. It’s not that I haven’t tried several times. I don’t own a lot of gear because what I own can fit into the Peak Design Everyday Sling bag I use. It can fit my camera but it doesn’t fit well with the rest of my gear in there, it doesn’t like to zip all of the way. The first thing up to talk about is my camera body, my Canon 6D Mark ii.
I’ve owned two Canon cameras before this. When I bought my first DSLR I went with Canon because I liked how it fit in my hands and where the buttons placed. I used to work for Lifetouch and they use Nikons. It was familiar but all the buttons were in the wrong place and it took me longer to change the settings because the buttons were not where I was used to having them. I LOVE my 6D Mark ii, I got this guy in the beginning of 2018. I upgraded to this guy because my last camera was acting up enough to be annoying and I wanted to get a full frame.
I just got the 85mm last summer and I like it. It makes for a tight shot but it makes it a fun challenge to figure out the shot I want. It’s a great portrait lens and I use it for landscapes on an occasion as well.
I got the 50mm lens the same time as the 85mm lens. This lens is my main one for work and it’s another one that is great for portraits. This as been goto lens lately and it works great for so many types of photography.
I love this lens. It’s the lens I’ve had the longest and I learned so much from it. I don’t use it as much as I used to but I still love it a lot. I should figure out a way to use it so much more.
This is my go to lens when I’m shooting animals that I can’t get close to. 99.9% of my zoo photos were taken with this lens. I have the ability to step back from the exhibit and get the shot I want or get right up to the barrier and zoom in to get the desired shot. It’s defiantly the heaviest of my lenses but the weight is worth the shots that I get.
I love that I can go hands free with this bag but still be able to have access to anything in it without taking it off my back. The way it is desined you can’t access the gear from the front of the bag. The zipper to the inside of the bag is next to the person wearing the bag which makes me feel safer. I don’t have to feel like I’m watching my back all of the time to make sure I still have everything. You can’t till from the photo above but it’s a charcoal grey and I love that color because it doesn’t show dirt very well. The material is also water resistant which makes my gear safe from rain when I get caught in it.
I bring hand sanitizer with me because I’m often in nature and the restrooms out there don’t have sinks. I sometimes in up in the dirt when I’m trying to get a shot which results in dirty hands so it also comes in handy for that as well.
I stick a couple of business cards in my back has come in handy. I’m often think I should just leave this places but then I also don’t want to litter.
I only had one battery for a while before having a dead or close to a dead battery to many times before I got a second one. I just recently got two more batteries and another charger because I kept leaving a batter and a charger at work and was getting annoyed that I was short a battery and a charger. I typically leave a charger at home and take one with me unless I’m going on a trip somewhere and then I will take both.
I have 6 sd cards but I only use the 3 on the left. I don’t usually use the ones on the right because they are slow. They don’t read the information of the photo as quickly as the ones on the left do. I plan on slowly getting more of the quicker ones but three seem to be working for me right now.
I love this strap because I have the ability to take my camera off the strap quickly with out having to take the strap off of me so I can get the shot without having to miss it because of the strap and then it goes on just as quickly so I can go about my ninja way. I also have more control on where my camera sits when I’m not using it which makes it nice if I need to transition from sitting/squatting/nealing/standing.
