2nd Winter on the Lake

Try to be like the turtle - at ease in your own shell.

I went up to the family lake house in Michigan last week for a couple of days. I needed a change of scenery that wasn’t my walls of my studio condo. It’s just what I needed for my emotional and mental well being. It was so nice to be able to connect with nature which is my favorite thing to do. I haven’t been able to do that much since the shelter in place as been in effect and it was nice to get out and not have to notice my distance from others. I ended up spending 5 days and 6 nights there before coming back.

The weather was kind of all over the place. The first morning I woke up there was a light dusting of snow and then a couple of days later I got several inches of snow that I decided it would be a good idea to kayak in. I wore several layers but still didn’t have gloves to wear so my hands got cold. When that I happened I went a little further and then went back in the house to warm up. I was planning to go back out but then I got comfy and didn’t want to go back out but it was fun going out that one time.

I did a whole lot of sitting on the front screened in porch of the house and just observing the nature in front of me. I saw the birds feeding several times a day and I tried to get photos of them but most didn’t turn out the way I wanted. I will probably edit them at some point and share them but in the future when I don’t think they aren’t as bad as I do know. I got a couple cool shots of the blue herring that lives in the area.

I came back home refreshed and ready to face staying at home for a little while. It gave me life to soul and to be able to connect with God and myself. I needed it more then I realized I did and I’m so glad I made the decision to go up, despite know the weather wouldn’t be the best, to spend time getting a different perspective.
