Lighthouse’s
Lighthouse’s of 2023
I took the best of the lighthouse footage and put it all in one video. Each of the lighthouses has its own videos, which are below.
Safe Haven’s
South Haven Lighthouse(lower left)The South Haven Lighthouse is a prominent historical landmark located in South Haven, Michigan. This iconic red lighthouse stands at the entrance of the Black River, where it flows into Lake Michigan. It was first constructed in 1872, with the current steel structure replacing the original wooden lighthouse in 1903.
The Grand Haven Lighthouse(lower right) is an iconic pair of historic lighthouses located in Grand Haven, Michigan, on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. These lighthouses consist of two structures, often referred to as the Inner Light and the Outer Light, both connected by a lighted catwalk that extends out into the lake along the pier.
White River Lighthouse
The White River Lighthouse, also known as the White River Light Station, is a picturesque lighthouse located on the shores of Lake Michigan, near the town of Whitehall, Michigan. It sits at the mouth of the White River, where it opens into the lake, and is one of Michigan’s historic maritime landmarks.
Muskegon South Breakwater & South Pierhead Lighthouse
The Muskegon South Breakwater and South Pierhead Lighthouse are located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, at the entrance to Muskegon Lake in Muskegon, Michigan. These two structures are part of the historic maritime navigation system used to guide ships safely into Muskegon’s harbor.
Little Sable Lighthouse
The Little Sable Lighthouse is located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan within the Silver Lake State Park in Michigan. This lighthouse is known for its distinctive red-brick design, which contrasts with many other lighthouses that are often painted white. Constructed in 1874, it stands 107 feet tall and was originally built to guide ships along the coast of Lake Michigan. The lighthouse is now a popular tourist attraction, offering stunning views of the lake and surrounding dunes. Visitors can climb to the top during the summer for panoramic vistas.
Milliken Lighthouse
The Milliken State Park Lighthouse is located in Detroit, Michigan, within the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor. This lighthouse is a modern replica of a classic Michigan lighthouse, built as part of an effort to beautify the riverfront and highlight the area's maritime history. It stands as a symbol of Michigan's rich lighthouse heritage, though it is not an active navigational aid.
The park itself is Michigan’s first urban state park, offering scenic views of the Detroit River and connecting visitors to walking trails, fishing spots, and other recreational activities. The lighthouse serves as a photogenic centerpiece, especially for those interested in capturing the fusion of city life with nature and waterfront beauty.
