The Perfect Selfie

Be bold, be brave enough to be your true self.
— Queen Latifah

I don’t know if the perfect selfie exists but I sure have taken enough photos of myself to try. I have put several tips together that I use that might help you the next time you take a selfie.

Propping Phone against Something/tripod

I looked up what others were suggesting to take a good selfie and a tripod was suggested. I like the idea but I don’t know many people who would want to carry a tripod around. Maybe when you travel and have a bag with you already but on a day to day basis, maybe not. If you don’t want to go the tripod route, I would suggest propping your phone in a way that makes both you and your phone safe.

Timers

Most if not all cameras have some kind of a timer. On iPhone, use tent to find timer button, use 10 seconds if getting in place, 3 if holding or not going far. With the timer you are able to create a selfie with more of a background. I use a time on my DSLR and it's how I get the photos of myself.

Selfie Sticks

I am not a big fan of selfie sticks. I get the appeal because you get the height need for a good photograph but you can still see the stick in the photo.

Nothing says tourist more. Not creative, Sets you up to potentially get mugged. Same photo with just a slightly different background.

Burst Mode

Turning on burst mode will allow you to have several different photos to choose from. I personally love doing burst mode because then I have options and I end up loving one of the photos that I didn’t think of doing when I set up the camera.

Leaning Forward

One of the tips that will help with a good selfie is leaning in a way where your forehead is the closet to the camera. Leaning forward will connect you with the photographer and in the end the people looking at it. It also has the benefit of slimming you down a bit.

Angle

Knowing your best angle takes practice, at least it did for me. I don’t do a lot of real high angles but I do angle the camera to be slightly above my eyes. I use this angle the most and is my go to.  I have done low angle a couple of times but its usually a fully body and its there is some distance me and the camera.
