A Single Bridge
“It is not good to cross the bridge before you get to it.”
I love bridges. I think one of the reasons I like bridges it’s because it brings connection. It connects two different sides together in a physical sense. Bridges are also symbolism in spiritual and emotional ways for connection. It connects us with God and it connects us with others. I’m often seeking connections between people, God, and nature. I think that all plays into my love of them. I also find it a challenge to get a photograph that isn’t obvious or boring. I want it to spark one’s imagination to start an adventure of what lies on the other side or what awaits underneath.
A favorite bridge photo
What make me sad is that this particular bridge, found on the property of the Morton Arboretum, doesn't look like this anymore. The spot where you walk across isn’t wood anymore it is a metal grate. I’m sure they did to for practical reasons like the midwest winters but it’s not as pleasing to photograph. Which I know is less important than for whatever reason they actually did it for but it just makes me sad. I took these photos a couple of years ago and I’m a stronger photographer now that I was then. I would love to go back and see how I would capture and edit these differently. I did go back and reedit this set of photos because of my growth as an editor. I am planning on going to do some trips to bridges near by and photograph them. I’m hoping to find ones with charm and even if I don’t I think it will be a fun adventure doing something that I love.
