Bulletproof Coffee Pour Over

Coffee is a language in itself.
— Jackie Chan

Kettle of water being pour over coffee.

I have loved and enjoyed drinking coffee for the past decade or so. When I would make coffee at home I would make it with a Mr. Coffee pot. I found that even though I enjoyed coffee, I didn’t enjoy making it. My coffee pot was also slow on the brewing. So I would start the brewing and then go do something else and then not go back to finish making it. So I was wasting and missing out on delicious coffee. I wanted a way to make coffee that was a bit more tactile to help me from getting distracted. I initially I was thinking about getting a French Press and then ended up with a Pour Over. I was hesitant to get a Pour Over because I was intimated by it and I thought I would be seen as a coffee snob. I went the Pour Over route because it looked like it would be more fun to make and I wanted to have a fun experience from beginning to end. This experience requires a bit of math to calculate water to coffee ratio and I haven’t quite gotten the hang of it yet.

Taking photos while making pour-over coffee was a challenge with the timing. Thankfully a tripod and an interval timer make it easier to nail it. I end up with a lot of photos though that end up either being duplicates or photos out of focus. I don’t mind the duplicates but the out-of-focus ones can make me sad because I miss out on nice ones on occasion. I might do more manual focus to help with the out-of-focus problem.

I love how this video turned out but it’s not perfect by any means. I blocked my light at times and didn’t have the settings where I should so a couple of clips became darker. I’m currently using natural light. Of the clips that are darker, I had trouble getting the color grading to where I wanted it to be. All that being said, I know what I need to improve on but I still love how it turned out. I think it shows improvement in my editing and the angles I decide to shoot. It makes me wonder what else I can do when creating food.

How do you take your coffee? Which method do you use to make your coffee? What do you think about How I make my coffee?
