Embracing the Journey/ Introducing Myself as a New Business Owner
Hello everyone! Katie Sisk here, and I’m beyond excited to introduce myself as a new business owner. It's been a wild ride getting here, but let’s be honest, wild rides are where the fun is, right? I’ve got a lot to share with you about who I am, how I got here, and what my business is all about, but first, a quick disclaimer: I’m hoping to make you laugh along the way. Humor is my secret sauce in life, and I genuinely believe it helps keep things light, even when the stakes feel high.
Why This Journey? Why Now?
Starting a business was something I dreamed about and always thought I'd get around to—someday, maybe. But someday doesn’t just happen unless you make it happen. And guess what? I did it! I’ve always had a creative side, from videography and photography to whipping up delicious recipes. Creativity runs through everything I do, and after years of exploring different outlets, I decided to channel it into something that felt right for me, something that brings together all the pieces of who I am.
The idea of being my own boss, steering the ship, and shaping my day-to-day has been both exhilarating and terrifying. But here I am, standing at the edge of something new and thrilling. And the best part? I’m bringing my full, goofy, kind, and genuine self into every corner of this business.
Who Am I?
To get to know me better, I think you should know a bit about the person behind the business. I’m a firm believer that kindness is the best policy. Whether it’s in my personal life or how I interact with clients, strangers, or loved ones, treating people with kindness is non-negotiable. It's the little moments of thoughtfulness that often make the biggest difference, and I plan on weaving that philosophy into the way I run my life.
I’m also a total goofball. No, seriously—I will crack the cheesiest joke just to get a smile out of you. Being goofy isn’t just something I turn on when things are easy; it’s how I cope with the challenges, too. When you start a business, things will inevitably go wrong. There are bumps in the road, obstacles you never see coming, and plenty of facepalm moments. But if you can laugh through it, you're already halfway to a solution. My sense of humor keeps me grounded, helps me connect with people, and reminds me to never take life (or business) too seriously.
Creativity is one of the driving forces behind everything I do. Whether it’s setting up the shot, cropping it just right, or baking something new, I approach things with a creative lens. I don’t believe in doing things the same old way just because “that’s how it’s always been done.” Where’s the fun in that? My business is all about finding new angles and adding a splash of color to everything I touch.
Being genuine is also a core part of my character. What you see is what you get. I’m transparent about who I am and what I believe in, and that’s how I plan on running this business. I don’t believe in pretending to be someone I’m not, and I definitely don’t believe in putting on a facade to make a sale. My hope is that people will connect with the authenticity behind my business and see that it comes from a place of passion, creativity, and—above all—heart.
And yes, I’m funny! Or at least, I think I am (and that’s what counts, right?). Humor has this amazing way of bringing people together, easing tension, and making the everyday feel just a little more special. Whether we’re discussing serious business decisions or figuring out what to name a new product, expect there to be a joke or two thrown in. It’s just how I roll!
The Business: My Passion Turned Reality
Now, let’s get into the good stuff: the business itself! My brand is all about food photography, specifically about cocktails, coffee, and recipes. It’s something I’ve been dreaming of for years, and it’s finally taking shape in a way that feels true to my vision. I’ll be offering photos and videos of cocktails, coffee, and recipes that can be used for but not limited to social media, print, and websites. I would love to be able to do a cook book.
What makes my business unique is that I’m not just focused on selling a product or service—I want to create an experience. I want my clients to experience a creative coloration where we try ideas until we find what works. I want it to be fun and I want them to feel like I care about what we are creating together.
One of the core values of my business is inclusivity. I want everyone who interacts with my brand to feel like they belong. Whether you’re someone who’s been a fan of what I do from day one or you just stumbled across my page, my hope is that you’ll feel like part of the family. My business is as much about building community as it is about delivering a fantastic product or service. In a world that sometimes feels a little too cold or distant, I want my brand to be a place where warmth, kindness, and connection thrive.
What to Expect From Me
As a new business owner, I’m ready to embrace all the challenges, victories, and everything in between. Here’s what you can expect from me as I grow and evolve:
Authenticity – You’ll always get the real me. No gimmicks, no faking it. I’ll keep things honest, whether it’s about a new product launch, a behind-the-scenes struggle, or an exciting milestone.
Creativity – I promise to keep things fresh and fun. Innovation is at the heart of what I do, and you can expect that my business will continue to evolve in unexpected and delightful ways. I’m always thinking of how to make things better, more exciting, and more reflective of the vibrant personality behind the brand.
Kindness – People come first in my business. Whether it’s my customers, collaborators, or employees (if I’m lucky enough to grow to that point!), kindness will always be the foundation of how I operate.
A Sense of Humor – Business can be stressful, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring or too serious. Expect to laugh with me along the way, whether it’s through a quirky Instagram post, a funny story I share in a blog, or the lighthearted way I approach problem-solving.
Genuine Engagement – I’m not just here to make a sale and disappear. I want to build lasting relationships with my customers and community. I’ll be listening to feedback, interacting with you on social media, and always looking for ways to make sure that you feel like you’re a part of what I’m creating.
The Road Ahead
Starting a business is like jumping off a cliff and building a parachute on the way down, but you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m excited to learn, grow, and share every step of this journey with you. While I’m working and waiting for my business to grow, I’ll continue working full-time at a regional airline. I enjoy being able to travel with this job and the people I get to work alongside. To be able to add my photography/videography to what I’m already doing is the next step.
Thank you for being here at the beginning of this adventure. Whether you’ve known me for years or are just getting to know me now, I’m so glad we’re in this together. Here’s to building something fun, creative, and genuinely awesome!
With all my goofiness, creativity, and kindness,
Katie
